In a previous post called Work in Progress: Amagansett, I mentioned that I had gone to India to consult with embroidery master Ranjit Ahuja on some custom sheer curtains for a house I have been working on in Amagansett. From that previous post, here is the room awaiting the curtains:
The house is still not yet ready to be seen in its entirety, but to give just a glimpse of some before and after, here is the same room photographed on the day that we installed the curtains:
These curtains were created by embroidering a design of beach grass and reeds onto an ecru linen sheer. We used only threads that were white, off white, and ecru to keep the embroidery as a subtle indication of and homage to the actual garden and its plants beyond the windows.
A living room overlooking a private garden is the perfect place to use a sheer curtain like this. We will post more of this house as it nears completion, though it will always be a story that is ever in the making.
